If you're not familiar with scrapple, then you may not understand today's title. For those from the Mid-Atlantic region of our great land, even into the Del-Mar-Va peninsula area, you will know what scrapple is, even if your palate doesn't. For the uninitiated, scrapple is a mush of pork scraps mixed with flour, corn meal and spices. It's formed in to a semi-congealed loaf. Ultimately sliced and fried up as a side dish for breakfast, or whenever you have a hankering for scrapple. But it's the "scrap" in scrapple that I'm talking about. It's usually made from hog offal, head, heart, liver etc. As some would say, it's everything but the "oink". So this column today is just the scraps in my mind.
Of all the things over the weekend comes the story of Congressmen being heckled, spat upon and racial epithets hurled their way. As some were entering the Capitol from the House office building, through the crowd of health care opponents, Rep. Andre Carson (of Indiana) told a reporter that as he walked with Rep. John Lewis (of Georgia) a leader of the civil rights era, some chanted “the N-word, 15 times.“ Both Carson and Lewis are black, and the Indiana Democrat said “it was like going into the time machine"with Lewis. A spokeswoman for Democratic Whip Jim Clyburn said a protester spit on Rep. Emanuel Cleaver. Clyburn called the behavior “absolutely shocking.“ The South Carolina Democrat said people were shouting things he had’t heard since 1960 when he was"marching to try to get off the back of the bus" (AP). It was further alleged that Democrat Massachusetts Representative was called a faggot. If this is true, there is absolutely no place in our movement, in our party and in our society for this kind of behavior and un-civil discourse. Not withstanding it being disrespectful but it completely tears down all that we are fighting for, all that we have gained and all that we hope to achieve. But as I said, if it's true. Even if it's not true, there is still no place for it. But there is no evidence that any of this occurred. They are only allegations. Now I find it very difficult to believe, that with that many people around on Saturday afternoon, with the press, television cameras, personal video cameras and video phones, that not one piece of video or audio has been produced to support the claims of the congressmen. All they need is about ten seconds and the liberal media will have a field day. It would be on an endless loop on MessNBC, Communist News Network and of course the state run TV networks (thanks Rush). The left thinks we are all racist's anyway. But we are not the disobedient, name calling, mis-characterizing miscreants. We leave that to the left.
I'm often amused by the left-living, socialist media and their pundits in how they often characterize the law abiding right as racists and criminals. As if they all are as pure in the heart as the angels. Really? Need any proof to the contrary. Ask Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Mark Levin, Ann Coulter and Charles Krauthammer for some of their e-mails. I would assert that Glenn Beck gets more death threats than the President. Certainly more than any ten members of congress combined. Mark Levin has some of the most distasteful, anti-Semitic remarks made about him. And this is from the left! Most Jews are Democrats. So are these self-hating Jews? Conservative columnist and all around cool girl SE Cupp posts some of her "fan mail" on her website. Check it out and you'll see what I mean (http://www.redsecupp.com/). But do you ever hear about this? Does the media ever talk about the threats and hate hurled at conservative pundits, columnists and politicians? No, they don't. It doesn't serve their interest. But there's a bigger point. None of the aforementioned conservatives make a big deal about it to the press because those that are hurling these hate filled remarks are all cooks, cowards and coconut heads. We on the right understand there are bad apples in every large group or movement and the entire personage should not be characterized the same as the crazy minority.
I have recently signed up for Twitter. Now I don't have a Twitter friendly phone but due to my unemployment circumstance, I'm basically a shut in. So I'm always on my computer. For the time being it works for me. But I have had a ball with this thing. What a concept! I get to read spur of the moment thoughts from the famous and not so famous. I had a good back and forth on Sunday with Redstate Report (http://www.redstatereport.com/) about the impending health care vote. Race car driver extraordinaire Juan Pablo Montoya told us all at 10AM Sunday, that he was still in bed watching TV. SE Cupp told us about watching a freaky TV show she came across on BBC America on Saturday night. But real interesting was when Texas Republican Congressman Pete Sessions was Tweeting us during the House Rules Committee meeting on Saturday and Sunday. Now that was cool! He would send us pictures of the rally outside of the Capitol Building and Tweet us about how loud it was while they were in the meeting. It was like having a friend on the scene giving you the at that moment scoop. House Minority Leader John Boehner kept us up to date all day and he himself was magnificent. Guy Fieri told us about a shoot he was on. And Chef Rick Bayless keeps us posted on every bite he takes. :-0) If you're not on this thing, give it a try.

NASCAR has been testing the new spoiler in Charlotte for the past two days. Juan Pablo Montoya has been Tweeting that things are going well, lots of cars up there and his car feels real good with the new spoiler. I think they are going to run the spoiler this weekend at Martinsville and then for the rest of the season. So the much detested wing on the back deck will disappear. Personally the wing didn't bother me from an aesthetic perspective but if the spoiler helps these crates handle better and the racing improves, I'm all for it.

What is NASCAR doing saying "The Pledge of Allegiance" before the national anthem? They've never done that before. Now they're showcasing some right-winger singer. Is NASCAR getting political? I know they cater to the uneducated, uninformed white male. There is a term called a NASCAR dad, and basically that is a manual laborer who isn't educated. But why do they have to patronize with "The Pledge of Allegiance?"

If Jenna Lee of Fox Business Network isn't the most beautiful person on television, then I haven't seen the one who looks better. And it's not that she is physically attractive but she's smart, funny and is a terrific broadcaster. She has really fit in on the Imus in the Morning simulcast on Fox Business Network and filled in Monday on Fox News Channel for Jane Skinner on Happening Now. She did a great job.
Speaking of Fox Business Network, I saw on the crawl this afternoon that the Federal Reserve is going to stop buying mortgage backed securities starting next week. Of course this begs the question, what took so long? But it's also another bad sign for my industry.
Vice President Joe Biden is simply the gift, that keeps on giving. In case you are not aware but our esteemed Vice President is very prone to verbal gaff's. I bet if you Googled "Biden gaff's" or went to Youtube.com you would find enough to keep you entertained. Well yesterday we were not to be let down by old Joe. After introducing the President to the gathered crowd in the East Room of the White House for the health care bill signing, he turned to the President, shook his hand and said, "This is a big fucking deal!". Yes Joe, it is. Franklin Roosevelt had The New Deal and now Barack Obama has The Big Fucking Deal or BFD for those faint of heart. Of course, in keeping up with America's entrepreneurial and free market spirit, even in the face of overwhelming socialism. This is a somber day for the American people. By signing this bill, President Obama is abandoning our founding principle that government governs best when it governs closest to the people. Americans have never felt more disconnected from their government than they do today.
Never before has such a monumental change to our government been carried out without the support of both parties. This debate has fostered unprecedented division at a time when this nation needs to come together and address the serious challenges we face.
The devastating consequences of this legislation will be felt in broken promises, higher costs, lost jobs and fewer freedoms. Republicans will continue to stand on principle, hold President Obama accountable for his promises, and fight to repeal this government takeover of health care so we can start over on common-sense reforms that lower costs for families and small businesses.
